Healthcare

Protect patient data and keep care running.

ThreatGaurd helps hospitals, clinics, diagnostic labs and health tech companies secure patient data and clinical systems, recover quickly from incidents and show regulators and partners that patient information is safe.

Why it matters

In healthcare, a cyber attack is a patient safety issue.

When records, lab results or imaging go offline, clinicians fall back to paper, appointments are cancelled and patients may be diverted elsewhere. Attackers know this pressure, which is why healthcare remains a prime target for ransomware.

Health data is also among the most sensitive personal data there is. It can be used for fraud and extortion long after a breach, and protecting it is a legal duty almost everywhere.

  • Clinical systems that cannot stop

Records, lab and pharmacy systems run around the clock, leaving little room for downtime.

  • Connected devices that are hard to secure

Medical devices often run older software that cannot be patched without the manufacturer.

  • A wide circle of partners

Insurers, labs, billing companies and technology vendors all handle patient data.

The patient data journey

Every step of care creates data worth protecting.

From the first booking to the final bill, patient data moves through many systems and partners. We follow that journey and secure each stop along the way.

We never test medical devices directly. Where deeper device testing is needed, we tell you so you can plan it with the manufacturer.

Downtime readiness

Know how long care can run without each system.

Downtime procedures keep care going for a while. Recovery targets decide for how long. We help you set them for each clinical system, and test whether you can actually meet them.

RPO, recovery point objective
How much patient data, measured in time, you could afford to lose. It decides how often clinical systems must be backed up.
RTO, recovery time objective
How long a system can be down before patient care is affected. It decides how quickly you must recover.

Why ThreatGaurd

Security work that puts patients first.

  • Care is never disrupted

Testing windows agreed with clinical and IT leadership, away from critical care hours where needed.

  • Patient data stays private

Test records and accounts instead of real patient data, and no copying of medical records.

  • Hands-off with medical devices

No direct testing of medical devices. We check the networks around them instead.

  • Clear reporting for leadership

Plain-language summaries for boards, medical directors and compliance teams.

Agreed before any work starts

  • Signed NDA and data processing terms where required
  • Clinical systems and hours that are off-limits
  • Test accounts and records approved by your team
  • Named clinical and IT contacts during testing

Nothing is tested until scope, timing and contacts are confirmed in writing.

FAQ

Questions healthcare leaders ask us

Can’t find your answer? Our team is happy to help.

Do you test medical devices?

No. We do not run tests directly against medical devices, because of the risk to patient safety. We check that devices sit in their own network zones and that only approved systems and vendors can reach them, and we tell you if deeper testing with the manufacturer is needed.

Can you test without seeing real patient data?

Yes. We use test accounts and test records wherever possible, avoid copying or downloading patient data and show only the minimum evidence needed to prove a finding.

Will testing affect patient care?

Testing windows are agreed with clinical and IT leadership, critical systems can be declared off-limits during care hours, and testing stops immediately if anything behaves unexpectedly.

Does the proposed HIPAA Security Rule update require penetration testing?

The update proposed by HHS in January 2025 would require penetration testing at least once a year and vulnerability scanning at least every six months. Until it is finalised, both remain good practice that many healthcare organisations already follow.

Can you help a health tech company pass hospital security reviews?

Yes. We help with application and API testing, privacy reviews and ISO 27001 or SOC 2 readiness, so you have clear evidence for hospital security questionnaires and procurement.

Who do you work with in healthcare?

Our services suit hospitals and health systems, clinics, diagnostic labs and imaging centres, health insurers and administrators, and health tech, telemedicine and online pharmacy platforms.
