Professional services

Keep client confidences confidential.

ThreatGaurd helps law firms, accounting and audit firms, consultancies and advisers protect client files and email, stop payment fraud and answer client security reviews with confidence.

Why it matters

Your clients trust you with their most sensitive information.

Deal documents, financial records, legal strategy and personal data all pass through professional firms. To an attacker, one firm can be the easiest way to reach many clients at once.

Clients know this too. More of them now review their advisers’ security before sharing information or granting access, and they expect clear answers.

  • Email is the front door

Mailbox takeovers lead to payment fraud, data theft and impersonation of partners.

  • Access that only grows

People join matters and change teams, but their access to client files often stays.

  • Clients asking harder questions

Security questionnaires and reviews now come before many new engagements.

Payment fraud

Most payment fraud starts with one compromised mailbox.

Attackers take over a partner’s or client’s email, wait for a real transaction, then send new bank details at exactly the right moment. Firms that handle settlements, escrow and fees are prime targets.

What we check

  • MFA and sign-in policies for every mailbox
  • Hidden forwarding and inbox rules
  • Admin access to your email platform
  • Email domain protection (SPF, DKIM and DMARC)

One simple rule stops most of these frauds: confirm any change of bank details by calling a number you already know, never one in the email.

  • Warning sign: the sender’s domain looks like yours but is spelled differently.
  • Warning sign: replies go to a different address.
  • Warning sign: the subject creates urgency.
  • Warning sign: the email asks you to pay new bank details.
  • Warning sign: the sender asks you not to call.

Need-to-know access

Only the right people should see each client’s files.

In most firms, access grows over time. People join matters, change teams and leave, but their access stays. We review who can actually open each client’s files, and help you enforce need-to-know.

FAQ

Questions firm leaders ask us

Can’t find your answer? Our team is happy to help.

Our clients keep sending security questionnaires. Can you help?

Yes. We compare your controls with what clients usually ask, test your systems, help you fix the gaps that matter and give you evidence, such as a test report and letter of attestation, that you can reuse in every review.

Can you test without seeing client documents?

Yes. We prove access using harmless test files or file names only, never open or copy client documents, and agree in advance which systems hold privileged or highly confidential material.

How do we reduce the risk of payment fraud?

Enforce MFA on every mailbox, watch for hidden forwarding rules, protect your email domain and require a call back on a known number before any change to bank details. We check the technical controls and help you set the process.

Do we need ISO 27001?

Not always. Many clients accept a recent penetration test and clear policies, while larger or regulated clients increasingly ask for ISO 27001 or SOC 2. We help you decide based on the clients you serve and want to win.

We use an outsourced IT provider. Can you work with them?

Yes. We coordinate access and testing windows with your IT provider and give them clear, prioritised fixes they can act on.

Which firms do you work with?

Our services suit law firms, accounting and audit firms, consulting and advisory firms, architects and engineers, and any firm that holds confidential client information.
