Web & API Security Testing

Secure the applications and APIs your business runs on.

ThreatGaurd tests your web applications and APIs the way real attackers do, from authentication and access control to business logic and data exposure, and shows your developers exactly how to fix what matters.

Why it matters

Your applications and APIs hold your most valuable data.

Customer records, payments and business workflows all run through your web applications and the APIs behind them. That makes them the first place attackers look, and the place where a single flaw can expose many customers at once.

Web and API security testing shows you, with evidence, what an attacker could do with your applications today, and gives your developers clear steps to fix it.

  • Access control is easy to get wrong

One missing check can let a user read or change another customer’s data. Scanners rarely notice, because the request looks normal.

  • APIs expose more than the screen shows

Mobile apps, single-page apps and partner integrations call APIs directly, often getting back more data than any user should see.

  • Releases move faster than reviews

New features, roles and endpoints ship every sprint. Without regular testing, new gaps can reach production unnoticed.

Business outcomes

What application and API testing gives your business

  • Protect customer data

Find and close the flaws that could expose customer records, payments or personal data.

  • Release with confidence

Know that new features and APIs have been tested by people who think like attackers.

  • Fixes developers can apply

Every finding comes with evidence and practical steps, so engineering time goes into fixing, not investigating.

  • Evidence that stands up

Reports are structured for enterprise customers, auditors and security questionnaires.

Testing scope

Test every layer of your application, from login to the last API call.

Choose the areas that matter to you. Every engagement is scoped to your application, user roles and release plans.

Methodology

Recognised methods, matched to your application.

We follow the OWASP testing guides and agree the depth of testing with you during scoping.

  • Black box

Unauthenticated testing, from the view of an anonymous attacker on the internet.

    Best for

    Public-facing sites and first assessments.

  • Most common

    Grey box

Test accounts for each user role, so we can test what logged-in users can reach and change.

    Best for

Most applications and APIs. Access-control issues usually surface here.

  • White box

Access to source code, API specifications and architecture, alongside live testing.

    Best for

Critical applications, complex logic and high-assurance needs.

Standards we follow

  • OWASP WSTG
  • OWASP Top 10
  • OWASP API Security Top 10
  • OWASP ASVS
  • CWE
  • CVSS scoring

How it works

From scoping call to verified fix, in five steps.

  1. 01

    Scope and prepare

We agree applications, APIs, user roles, environments and testing windows. An NDA is signed before any access.

  2. 02

    Map the application

We map every page, endpoint and role, using your API specifications where available.

  3. 03

    Test and exploit

Our testers manually test access control, authentication and business logic, supported by automated scanning, without disrupting users.

  4. 04

    Report and walk through

You receive the reports, followed by a walkthrough with your product, engineering and security teams.

  5. 05

    Retest and close

Once fixes are deployed, we retest and update the report to show what is closed.

Deliverables

Findings your developers can fix and your leaders can understand.

  1. Executive summary A short overview for leadership: overall risk, key issues and what to do next.
  2. Technical report Every finding with CVSS severity, OWASP and CWE mapping, request and response evidence and affected endpoints.
  3. Developer fix guidance Practical remediation steps for your stack that your developers can apply directly.
  4. Retest report Confirms which issues are fixed, for your records, customers and auditors.
  5. Letter of attestation A summary you can share with customers and partners without exposing technical details.

Use cases

When organisations test their applications and APIs

  • Before launching an application or API

Find exploitable issues before real users, and attackers, reach it.

  • After a major release or redesign

New features, roles and endpoints often introduce access-control gaps.

  • Opening APIs to partners or customers

Make sure external consumers can reach only what they should.

  • Enterprise customer security reviews

Answer SaaS security questionnaires with recent, independent test results.

  • Audit and certification evidence

Support evidence requirements for SOC 2, ISO 27001 and PCI DSS.

  • Moving to microservices or a new framework

Check that authorization and data handling held up through the change.

Why ThreatGaurd

Application testing that speaks to developers and leaders.

  • Manual testing, not just scanning

  • Every user role covered

We test what each role can see and do, where many of the most serious API issues are found.

  • Developer-ready reporting

Request and response evidence with clear fix steps, so engineers do not have to guess.

  • Your data stays protected

NDA before access, dedicated test accounts and encrypted report delivery.

Supports compliance evidence for

  • ISO/IEC 27001
  • SOC 2
  • PCI DSS
  • HIPAA
  • GDPR
  • India DPDP Act

FAQ

Questions leaders ask about application and API testing

Can’t find your answer? Our team is happy to help.

What is the difference between web application testing and API testing?

Web application testing covers what users reach through the browser: pages, forms, sessions and client-side code. API testing goes directly to the endpoints behind your web and mobile apps, where data and business rules live. Most modern applications need both, and we usually test them together.

Do you only test against the OWASP Top 10?

No. The OWASP Top 10 and the OWASP API Security Top 10 are a baseline. We follow the OWASP Web Security Testing Guide and spend most of our effort on access control, authentication and business logic, which are specific to your application and cannot be found by scanners alone.

Do you need our source code?

No. Most tests are grey box: we use test accounts for each role and, if available, your API specifications. Source code access is optional and helps on critical applications or complex logic.

Can you test in production without affecting users?

Yes, with care. We agree testing windows, use dedicated test accounts and avoid destructive or high-volume tests in production. Where possible we recommend a staging environment that mirrors production, especially for payments and other data-changing actions.

What do you need from us to get started?

The application or API base URLs, test accounts for each user role, API documentation such as an OpenAPI file, Postman collection or GraphQL schema if you have one, and a technical contact. We share a scope document and rules of engagement for sign-off before testing begins.

How long does an application or API test take?

Most engagements take 1 to 3 weeks, depending on the number of applications, user roles and API endpoints in scope. Retesting is scheduled once your developers have deployed the fixes.

How is the cost calculated?

Cost depends on the size and complexity of the application: the number of pages and endpoints, user roles, integrations and the testing approach. After the scoping call you receive a fixed-scope proposal, so the cost is agreed before testing starts.

How often should we test our applications and APIs?

At least once a year and after significant changes, such as major releases, new user roles or new public APIs. Teams that release often can test their highest-risk changes between full assessments.

Will your report support SOC 2, ISO 27001 or PCI DSS?

Our reports are structured to support SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI DSS and customer security reviews, with an executive summary, detailed findings, retest results and a letter of attestation. The final audit opinion always rests with your auditor, so if a specific format or accreditation is required, tell us during scoping and we will confirm what we can provide.
